The Whole Story (actually just the second story)

Just received some new pictures from our contractor (aka- joe the builder)-
the second floor is going on and it looks like we have stairs.  We'll just pretend that we are not getting another 15 inches of snow tomorrow.

Inspiration

So due to massive amounts of snow, no new photos to post. But, I thought I would share some lovely kitchens with you. Who doesn't love a good kitchen photo? The first picture is my favorite- look at that beautiful blue tile. If I have enough guts, I just may well......copy it.  The seagrass shade and the marble countertop are just lovely.

Yup, definitely going with carrara...honed so it won't be too shiny. Note to hubby, no red wine spills please :)    I found a great place this weekend for the marble countertops - Stone Technologies in Woburn.  They have a HUGE warehouse and tons of products.  Did I mention the warehouse is heated- no trudging through the snow. Apparently, there is a new product for marble that when applied, prevents staining- I know, sounds too good to be true, but worth a shot.   They have been featured on "This Old House"- if Norm likes them, then so do I.  Every house obsessed person knows exactly who Norm is.

The next kitchen is all about the cabinetry that comes down to meet the counter. Charming huh?

Our farm sink came this week....it weighs 158 lbs- not kidding.  Yes, it is  possible to love a sink-

and....every beautiful sink needs an equally beautiful faucet...I wanted functional...3 kids and a cavalier king charles who has been known to take a dip in the kitchen sink. The golden won't fit, but we will deal with that when designing the outside shower :)

It is by Rohl and has a slightly modern feel to it.

The last kitchen has our sink and faucet -  and an island that will be pretty close to ours.
Now, the cabinetmaker (Sundance Woodworking)- super talented btw-  just needs to take all of these ideas and put them together....I know he can do it!

O.M.G.

Wow- we went down for a visit today, and lets just say we are beyond excited! We climbed up to the second floor (a little scary, no walls yet) and were blown away by the view. The photos do not do it justice- we could clearly see the Vineyard- spectacular!!  Next week they will build the second level! We are building an upside down house (kitchen and living area will be upstairs) so we can enjoy the view all day.......oh and purchased the appliances today- Yale Appliance in Dorchester - efficient and helpful.

Progress!

Looks like a house (or sort of...)
I can't believe we are still on schedule after the crazy northeast weather these last few weeks...
notice the lovely grey sky- remind me again why don't we live on the west coast?

Checkin In...

Joe and I (and 3 reluctant kids) made a quick trip down to the Cape today to check on progress.  I still can't believe we are really building this house. Every time we drive down our street, I fall more  in love with the view and the feeling of the property.  I posted some photos of our "visit."

foundation perfection...

So, today, as I am writing this blog, the new septic system is going in.  The new water lines were tied in yesterday.  Here is the really good news....the framers start next tuesday- as long as the weather cooperates. We are supposed to get snow this weekend......so pray for a  small accumulation. I have posted the latest picture of the foundation  after it was backfilled on Monday.
